Exhibition Concept and Sight Relevance

This exhibition is situated at Todmorden Mills Museum, a unique cultural site that brings together history, nature, and contemporary art.

The site dates back to the 19th century and was once a key industrial area in Toronto, evolving through phases as a sawmill, brewery, and paper mill. In 1967, it was transformed into a museum open to the public. As such, it embodies multiple layers of memory, including the city’s development, industrial transformation, and immigrant histories.

Today, it has become a public cultural park supported by the City of Toronto, hosting contemporary art exhibitions, community art initiatives, and a variety of cultural events. Its 9-hectare natural landscape—featuring forests, wetlands, and river valley scenery—also provides immersive conditions for artistic creation.

By responding to this historical and natural context, the exhibition explores the central theme of “transformation”—including the transformation of the city, shifts in individual identity, and the fluid relationship between memory and imagination.
